History of CRNS
The Croton River Numismatic Society, or CRNS, as is normally referred to, had it’s
beginnings in 1972 in the Carmel area of Putnam County, New York. A group of men
and women who had been collecting, grading and selling coins and currencies for
some time decided to form the Society
Under Article II of the Constitution of the newly created venture was the “ Object
“(ive), more commonly called now a “ Mission Statement “
“ The object of this Society shall be to encourage, discuss and promote the science
of numismatics by gathering together of numismatists for the advancement of
numismatics for the members and other interested parties “.
At the time of the founding the officer positions were: President, Vice-President,
Corresponding Secretary, Recording Secretary, Treasurer and two members of the
Board of Governors.
As the Society had no real estate to call its own, the monthly meetings were held in
numerous locations in the Carmel area. Those shown below are not in actual
chronological order:
